The struggle between the long-established digital silver Litecoin and the larger-block Bitcoin fork Bitcoin Cash began the moment Bitcoin Cash appeared - in August of last year. These coins are similar in many things: their block size is larger than Bitcoin's, the purpose of their creation and their intended use is purely Keynesian, and they are also better suited for adoption in trade and other commerce. Both projects are fighting for the same market segment. And although BCH got a decent start and immediately pulled ahead in capitalization thanks to Bitmain, bitcoin.com and the supporters of larger blocks behind it, the Litecoin community also did not stand still and confidently tried to overtake its competitors.
The prediction that digital silver would increase its capitalization by the end of the year was made back on February 5 by the cryptocurrency's creator, Charlie Lee. At that time he wrote: “Ethereum will never overtake Bitcoin, but Litecoin will overtake Bitcoin Cash this very year”. Lee's predictions rarely fail to come true. Even his forecast about Litecoin's price dropping to $20 after the bull rally at the end of 2017 came true. Lee was not mistaken this time either — Litecoin managed to overtake Bitcoin Cash in capitalization: it now stands at just over $1.428 billion against $1.407 billion for Bitcoin Cash. Lee's forecast regarding his own cryptocurrency was taken seriously by its community — its members created the website Flappening.watch, where the process of overtaking Bitcoin Cash's capitalization was tracked. It takes into account such data as market capitalization, the current price, the number of active addresses over the last day, the number of transactions per day, daily trading volume, the block reward (in US dollars) and the average time to mine a block. By some of these parameters Litecoin overtook Bitcoin Cash long ago: it has long had more transactions and a larger trading volume, while at the same time new blocks are found 4 times faster. Litecoin has never yielded to its main competitor in overall liquidity.
